Low Zinc Levels May Raise Pneumonia Risk in At-Risk Population

Low blood levels of Zinc may be linked to an increased risk of pneumonia amongst the elderly, suggesting the benefits of supplements for this at-risk population, according to new research.

“Normal serum Zinc concentrations in nursing home elderly are associated with a decreased incidence and duration of pneumonia, a decreased number of new antibiotic prescriptions, and a decrease in the days of antibiotic use,” wrote lead author Simin Meydani in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

“Zinc supplementation to maintain normal serum Zinc concentrations in the elderly may help reduce the incidence of pneumonia and associated morbidity.” Zinc is one of the most utilized trace elements in the body, second only to Iron. It mediates many physiological functions and is believed to be essential for maintaining a healthy immune system.

Conference Calls Schedule

First, we would like to thank Lorraine Hunter, Donna Bumgardner, and Dr. Wallach for joining us on last week’s call. Recently, Fort Wayne, Indiana threw an outstanding event called the Hoosier Midwest Jamboree 2007. Doc Wallach, Lorraine, and Donna told us all about their experience at the event—the turnout, exciting outcomes, and resulting success! The call was great inspiration for all of us hosting or attending business-boosting events such as this one, in the upcoming weeks and months!

Tonight’s guest will be Bernie Owens! Join in on the call as Bernie passes on critical tips and information for successfully building your business. Bernie is a star example of success, as he has been a Double Diamond Executive Leader for many years! As we all are always looking for fresh, innovative ways to achieve success in our own businesses, be ready to take in inspiring new material and learn how to best utilize it!

Please join us this and every Thursday night at 5:00 PM Pacific, followed by The Leadership Training Call with Sandy Elsberg at 5:30 PM Pacific. Dial (303) 664-6005, ID number 801-6610. Help reduce background noise, and please remember: *6 to mute, *7 to un-mute.

Help!

Okay, you have been through all of the training on the webinars with Wiley and you know how to use your New Home Office pretty well. You are now cruising along using your New Home Office program when you suddenly find that you have forgotten how to do something—now what do you do? Well, you could pick up the phone and call support for the website at (800) 279-6572, M-F 7am to 5pm Pacific, or support for the Business Center at (800) 982-3189, but have you realized that it is past 5:00pm, and most likely your question will have to wait until the morning? Maybe not! Here are a couple of tips to keep you moving when you get stuck after hours.

  1. Try looking up your question in the “Help” section located on the homepage of your Home Office. Click the “help” link located in the upper right corner. Next, select the topic that best suits your situation and follow the detailed instructions by clicking on any of the subcategories below each topic.

  2. Go to the “Community Forums” section. Many commonly asked questions and answers are posted in here. This is also a great place to share knowledge with your follow Youngevity® family members.

  3. Try e-mailing—chances are your e-mail will not be answered until the following day, but you never know…it may be possible to catch one of our support staff through e-mail even after we have closed for the day.
