A Cocoa-Rich Diet May Boost Antioxidant Defense

A diet rich in cocoa flavonoids could boost antioxidant defenses, particularly in the thymus gland, suggests a new study out of Spain.

Writing in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, lead author Emma Ramiro Puig and co-workers from the University of Barcelona report that feeding rats cocoa-enriched diets resulted in increased activity of the body’s antioxidant enzyme defenses.

The health benefits of antioxidant-rich chocolate have received much recognition in recent years, with positive findings from a number of studies impacting on consumer awareness.

The researchers reported that the cocoa-enriched diet led to significant increases in the total antioxidant capacity in all of the body tissues, particularly the thymus gland.

The researchers noted that there was a dose-dependant increase in the thymus activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, that resulted from cocoa supplementation.

SOD has a different mode of action to vitamins. Dubbed “The Enzyme of Life”, when first discovered in 1968, it is the first antioxidant mobilized by the cell for defense. It is thought to be more powerful than antioxidant vitamins as it activates the body’s production of its own antioxidants, including catalase and glutathione peroxidase.

This Week's Conference Call

Conference Calls Schedule

First, we would like to thank Dr. Devroey for joining us on last week’s call! Dr. Devroey finished his discussion on “FAT MISTAKES—In Vegetable Oils, Trans Fatty Acids Are Not the Only Threat.” It was a very insightful presentation, and the coinciding images found on www.longevinst.org added tremendous value to the lesson. This was a terrific opportunity to expand your knowledge and expertise to help battle one of the biggest health issues consumers are faced with today!

On tonight’s call we will have Dr. Corey Gold and his wife, Adrienne, joining us. As we hopefully all know by now, Youngevity® recently joined forces with ProJoba™ International, and as a result, we have many great new products on board! Listen in as Dr. Corey and Adrienne review all of the ProJoba™ products, highlights, and benefits, and learn how you can use them to help grow your business even further!

Please join us this and every Thursday night at 5:00 PM Pacific, followed by The Leadership Training Call with Sandy Elsberg at 6:00 PM Pacific. Dial (303) 664-6005, ID number 801-6610. Help reduce background noise, and please remember: *6 to mute, *7 to un-mute.

Using The New Home Office (Part 1)

You will begin just like before at www.youngevity.com. Once there, click on the LOGIN button located in the upper left part of the site. This will take you to the secure login screen for The New Home Office and start you down the path of easily managing your business. Login at the space provided. To place orders, check downlines, or change an AutoShip, click on the Business Center tab on the right-hand side.

To check Downlines, click on the Genealogy tab, then notice on your left the various navigation links. To run a complete downline report, click on the Genealogy Report (ADV) link. I recommend you run the report the way it is by default for the first time you run it so you can see all of your group, then when you are more familiar with the filtration options, try adding a few. When the report completes you will see that it is first presented to you in pages, so if you would like to see your report as one long page, click the Show All link located at the top left of your report. To run a downline report or gather order or other information on a member of your downline, simply click the person’s name.

To place an order, click on the My Orders tab, then click on the New Order link to the left. From here, you may click on the various categories or use the Quick ADD box to place items in your shopping cart. If you are not sure where to locate a particular product just type a keyword in the Search Product box located on the upper left. This will bring you to every instance of that word or number. After you have added the items you want, click the Checkout button. From there you may review your order, add or take away quantities, or continue shopping. Once you are satisfied with your purchases, check your shipping and billing as well as your credit card billing address, put your card number and expiration date in along with your CVV2 number, and push Process Order.

I will be continuing this series on The New Home Office over the next several weeks. You can also join me on the Daily Webinars for an easy-to-follow on-screen demonstration of the Home Office.
