Cocoa’s Heart-Healthy Benefits Given Another Boost
Consumption of polyphenol-rich cocoa may cut cholesterol levels, says a new study from Japan that adds to the ever-growing body of science supporting the potential heart-healthy benefits of chocolate. The new study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, followed the effects of different levels of supplementation of cocoa powder on cholesterol levels.
“The results suggest that polyphenolic substances derived from cocoa powder may contribute to a reduction of LDL cholesterol, and elevation of HDL (healthy cholesterol), as well as suppression of oxidized LDL,” wrote the study authors.

Summer Tips to Keep Your Business Hot!
Don't let the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer find your business lazy, hazy or crazy! Use the following tips to keep your momentum moving forward this summer:
- Set your summer goals. Decide how many meetings you will schedule per week in June, July, and August. Then, determine your sales goal per meeting and how many recruit leads you want to work with this summer. Your first step for summer success will be found in your written goals.
- Pick your dates. Select the specific dates available each week to hold shows. Block them out on your calendar and publish them in your next customer e-newsletter.
- Pick a theme. Summer events need to catch your hostesses' and guests' attention. So, even if you're not traditionally a "theme" person, become one for the summer. Plan events and meetings around a tropical, patriotic, pool party (even if there isn't a pool!), beach, backyard barbeque, or baseball theme, etc. Have guests participate by bringing or wearing something to complement the theme. Make your summer event a party that will grab their attention and their attendance!
- Be flexible. If available, offer more flexible times for events such as morning brunch or a luncheon. Consider informal open-house style meetings for repeat groupings.
- Hold a summer open-house. Pick your own theme and schedule your own open-house for all your hostesses, guests, family, and friends. Set up your kit, offer cash, and carry items to promote your available summer show dates.
- Schedule a daily summer "Power Hour." Plan a "Power Hour" daily to make courtesy calls to past hostesses and guests. Ask about their summer gift-giving needs, re-order needs, or new products they haven't seen yet. Stay faithful to your customers, even during the summer months.
- Enter exposure events. Participate in at least one exposure event each month this summer–craft shows, fairs, festivals, business expos, etc. Keep yourself busy and in the public eye.
