More Vitamin D for Fewer Broken Bones According to New Research
Daily Supplements of Vitamin D may cut the risk of fractures by up to 20 per cent, according to new meta-analysis.
Daily Intake of at least 400 IU of Vitamin D, may reduce hip fractures by 18 per cent, and non vertebral fractures by 20 per cent, according to pooled data from double blind randomized controlled trials involving 42,279 participants.
“The greater fracture reduction with a higher received dose or higher achieved 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels for both non-vertebral fractures and hip fractures suggests that higher doses of Vitamin D should be explored in future research to optimize anti-fracture efficacy,” according to Lead Researcher Heike Bischoff-Ferrari.
Until Next Week,
