Why am I not receiving the newsletter?
If your email program is set to send mail in HTML or RICH TEXT format, subscribe attempts will be unsuccessful. This is a security precaution to avoid possibly damaging scripts being sent to the mail server.
To turn off Rich Text and HTML in Microsoft Outlook 2000, click on Tools/Mail Format and choose "Plain Text" in the first "drop down" box. You may also specify individual emails be sent in plain text format by clicking on Format, and choosing "Plain Text". If you are using a mail program other than Microsoft Outlook, check your help files for instructions on sending email in Plain Text format.
If you are still unable to receive the Youngevity Newsletter your Internet provider may be blocking this type of e-mail. We are, however, working on our end to help overcome this and lessen these occurrences.

You never charged tax before. Why are you charging it now?

We have been contacted by a number of states and informed that we are obligated to collect sales taxes on their behalf. Independent sales representatives are considered by the states to establish a company as doing business in that state. As we are a law-abiding company we are complying with the states. We are not collecting California sales taxes except in California. The sales taxes we collect are remitted to the various states based on the ship-to address of the order.

For free, anyone can go to www.thestc.com, click on “Lookup Rates” and find the tax rates for a zip code. But it won’t tell them if shipping is taxable or what products are taxable.

I thought that when someone signs up as a customer/member, or as an associate, since they are members of a wholesale buying club (by paying $6 or $10) they are not required to pay nor collect sales tax, since the products are not being sold at retail. Is this NOT the case?

The price at which an item is sold or the method of sale do not what determine taxability for sales taxes. What the customer will do with the product is what determines whether or not sales tax should be charged. Sales are tax exempt under all of the following circumstances:

  • the customer has a valid resale permit/license,
  • the customer will resell the items to another party,
  • and they collect sales tax when they sell it and remit it to the state in which they do business.

Why are you collecting sales tax in my state when you are headquartered in and incorporated in California?

Most of the states have laws stating that any company that advertises in or has sales representatives in their state must collect sales tax on behalf of that state. We have thousands of associates in your state and their presence means we are required by law to collect sales taxes.
We have tried not to collect sales taxes on sales outside of California, but the laws in most states are not in our favor. So we have had to comply. If we do not collect taxes in these states we will end up paying the taxes later plus interest and penalties.
The taxes we collect from you are returned to your state and district and are not kept in California.

What is the status of interstate commerce being exempt from sales tax?

Only companies that sell only on the internet are currently exempt from collecting sales taxes on sales shipped to states outside the one their business is in. Most of the states have laws stating that any company that advertises in or has sales representatives in their state must collect sales tax on behalf of that state. States have informed us that we are responsible for collecting their sales tax on sales shipped to their state. There have been a number of court cases and all of them were decided in favor of the states. The taxes we collect from you are returned to your state and district and not kept in California.

I was overcharged on sales tax. How do I get a credit?

Please give Customer Service the order number(s) on which you think you were charged incorrectly and why you think the amount is wrong (no tax on certain items in your state, tax rate incorrect, no tax on shipping in your state, you are a reseller, etc.). We will investigate and will either give you a credit or contact you with why we believe the tax is correct.

When I enter my order online the wrong tax rate for my district comes up. How do I change that?

Go to change the ship-to address and hit enter until the city/county dialogue box comes up. It will show all the city/county options for your zipcode and their tax rates. Select the correct rate for where you live and continue with your order. You will have to do that every time you place an order.

I have a resale license/permit and a business address. I already collect taxes on my sales. Do I pay sales taxes to Youngevity or to my state?

Youngevity does not require its sales associates to have a sales tax license or resale permit. If you have a store or a business address, a business license, and a resale permit/license, when you file the correct paperwork with us we will waive the taxes on your purchases as long as your number is valid.
If you wish Youngevity to collect and pay the taxes for you, do not file your resale information with us and we will continue to collect sales taxes on your sales. However, if you sell products for more than what Youngevity is charged you, your state will expect sales taxes on the full sales price and may require you to have a resale license/permit.
When you sell products and collect money, you are required to collect the sales tax based on your selling price.

I have a resale number on file with Youngevity. My customers pick up their orders from me and then I send the order and payment to Youngevity to record. Will sales tax be charged on those orders?

Sales taxes are based on the ship-to address. If you put the ship-to address as your address on the orders, then the system should see that you have a resale number on file and not charge sales tax.
